Nature isn’t a place you go, it’s where you live! Join us to explore the nature right here in Marinette County.
Want to get your family off the couch and out for a real life adventure? All ages are invited to Meet Miss Lara from the Stephenson Public Library and crew at Harmony Arboretum and/or Dave’s Falls to see what kind of plants and animals live right here in Marinette County. We will use the free SEEK app by iNaturalist that is designed for kids and families to use to identify local species, sort of like the musical Shazam app, but for nature. Events are free and open to all ages, but preregistration is needed.
Register for either event or both by calling the Stephenson Public Library at 715.732.7570.
It’s here!! We have our Fall 2017 Program Guide available for you. If you want to check it out before you come to the library or print one out at home, go for it. (Note that it is in an 8″ x 14″ format.) Happy planning. Please call the library or stop by if you have questions about programs. 715.732.7570
Free Glasses: We are so happy to share the news that our libraries will have free solar eclipse safety glasses to pass out! These will be available the DAY OF THE ECLIPSE. We are not distributing them early as we need to be sure to have enough on hand at our events. We look forward to seeing everyone on August 21st! Please check with your branch library to see what time their event will begin.
Time: The eclipse lasts for several hours, so we understand that you may want to finish your observation off site. That works! You will be able to take your glasses with you that day. The eclipse will begin at approximately 11:54 a.m. and end at 2:36 p.m.
Safety: For your safety, it is important to use undamaged, unscratched safety glasses. Even a small scratch can result in eye damage.
Story Time: Join us at the Stephenson Public Library in Marinette on Friday, August 11th at 10:00 a.m. for our Pete the Cat Story Time and SRC Celebration! This is part of the Kid’s Day in Marinette events. We will read stories, move, grove, and meet Pete! Participants are welcome to have their photo taken with Pete as well.
Donations: We will also be presenting the Animal Shelter, St. Vincent dePaul food pantry, and the Fairy Godmother Project with their checks. The money was earned by participants in the “Build a Better World” Summer Reading Club courtesy of a donation by our Friends of the Library group. We hope that this helps everyone feel that they can make a difference right here in our community.
More Pete coming soon…. Schools also had the chance to earn a visit from Pete the Cat for their elementary school by earning the most points for their team by reading, creating, learning, and doing with the Summer Reading Club.
Great news! If you are looking for computers that are not online to take care of various word processing tasks, i.e. resumes, cvs, etc., you can use our off-line computers located on the second floor. They have recently been upgraded to Windows 10 and Microsoft Suite 16. You do not need to have a library card to use these. You can print from them for $.20/page. Plan to bring a flash/jump/thumb drive to save your documents, or purchase one at the front desk for $2/1Gig.
If you use Google Chrome, you can add an extension that will check the Infosoup database for books you may be considering purchasing on Amazon. One click will then take you to infosoup where you can put a hold on that book! Here’s where you can get more information…. https://www.libraryextension.com/
