Did you read Judy Blume’s books when you were a child or teenager? For this book discussion lead by Librarian Mariel, please (re)read some of her books for youth and teens, including Blubber, Iggie’s House, Forever, and Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. Among other topics, we will talk about how these books impacted our youth and what impact (if any) they have on us as adults.

Marinette: Family Tree Maker and Find-a-Grave Presentations

Genealogist Randy Ray will be at the Stephenson Public Library on September 21 to do two presentations.

September 21 at 10 AM: Family Tree Maker. In this presentation, Mr. Ray will show how to use the Family Tree Maker software program and how it connects with Ancestry and Family Search.

September 21 at 1 PM: Find-a-Grave. In this presentation, Mr. Ray will show how to use the Find-a-Grave website, including how to start an account, add photos, and edit entries. In addition, Mr. Ray will explain how to clean a headstone to get a good quality picture without damaging the stone.


Marinette: Genealogy Discussion Group

Local Genealogists get together at the Stephenson Public Library to learn from one another about resources and research techniques. Genealogists of all experience levels are invited to participate.

October 28 at 6 PM

At this session, Librarian Mariel will talk about genealogy and local history books recently added to the library’s collection. We will also take time to talk about family names each genealogist is researching to find overlapping family trees.

The Learning Express Library can help you learn workplace skills, prepare for the GED or college entrance exams, and prepare for a U.S. Citizens Exam. At this session, you will learn how to register and use the tutorials and tests in this website. Optional: Bring a laptop to practice along with the instructor and a bag lunch.

Marinette: Author John Harvey

John Harvey is the author of The Stillness of the Living Forest: A Year of Listening and Learning, a book on nature observation and connection with nature. At this presentation, Mr. Harvey will talk about how he made the commitment to sit in the same spot in the woods for an hour every week, for one year, and what he learned from this experiment.

This book will be for sale following the author’s presentation.
